Jo Malone London’s Blackberry & Bay and The Diary of a Nose

A new season equals a new fragrance, or so the glossies would have us believe. Actually I’ve been using Jo Malone London’s new Blackberry & Bay cologne since the press launch in May, when invitees were gathered in a W1 square for a breakfast picnic. Zalando Collection: The Blogger Apartment

My first introduction to German etailer Zalando came via Uslu Airlines make-up. Trying to find an online stockist for some nail polish a year ago led me to this multi-brand site that also sells a mind-boggling array of international fashion labels. Now, alongside the likes of Equipment, Filippa K, Moschino and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, it also boasts its own in-house line, Zalando Collection. To celebrate the launch of the second collection I was flown to Berlin to co-host an event with Amlul and Lesmads. (more…)

Quote of the day: Anna Sui on Antonio Lopez

“It’s not about fabulous anymore. It’s about having 500 friends on Facebook and the same American Apparel outfit to wear to a festival. It was kind of the opposite then. Freak was the preferred genre.”
Anna Sui in Guy Trebay’s excellent New York Times piece on Antonio Lopez

Other things I learnt:
Rizzoli is publishing the monograph, Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex & Disco by Mauricio and Roger Padilha next week

The next major MAC make-up campaign will be inspired by Lopez’ illustrations and coterie of fabulous friends

Bill Cunningham and Antonio Lopez were BFFs and studio neighbours

Pat Cleveland is working on her memoir

Boo George for Toast AW12

So that’s it. Summer’s over and whether we get an Indian summer is highly debatable. Time to crack on with autumn then, and gorge on the new Toast catalogue. As always, the art direction, photography, casting and styling are spot on. Boo George’s photography has a dreamy, hazy, wholesome quality reminiscent of 80s French Connection catalogues when the locations were vast and lush. (more…)
