First look at Joseph SS14



2014 will be a big year for Joseph. Having just celebrated its 40th anniversary, next year will mark its returns to the LFW catwalk. I have extremely high hopes. Having just seen the SS14 look book and collection, I can promise a return to the fashioned-up basics and utilitarian tailoring that Joseph is loved for.

The styling here is great, and very reminiscent of Joseph’s 90s heyday. We’ve all seen this look imitated lately by Celine, Stella et al, but Joseph did it the first time around, along with Helmut and Jil. Right down to the too-short pants (Joseph always cut a mean trouser), pool slides (styled by Jane How) and grunge-luxe make-up (shoutout to my girl Shinobu). Judge for yourself…

Boo George for Toast AW12



So that’s it. Summer’s over and whether we get an Indian summer is highly debatable. Time to crack on with autumn then, and gorge on the new Toast catalogue. As always, the art direction, photography, casting and styling are spot on. Boo George’s photography has a dreamy, hazy, wholesome quality reminiscent of 80s French Connection catalogues when the locations were vast and lush. (more…)



Look book: Sandro AW11




Out of all the mid-priced French brands (Maje, Zadig & Voltaire, The Kooples et al), Sandro is the one doing it for me right now. Autumn-winter 2011 is more boyish than previous seasons which of course is fine by me. The proportions are perfect for my small-shouldered frame and the fit of the tailoring is excellent for the price… (more…)
