Everything But The Dress on Nowmanifest

Kurt Geiger has just launched its own, very slick blog called Everything But The Dress to tie in with the rebranding of its stores as a one stop accessory shop. What’s clever is that Everything But The Dress is hosted on the Nowmanifest.com platform, a space where literally a handful of (uber)blogs reside.

As I understand it, Bryanboy, Fashion Toast and Style By Kling get a share of any ad revenue generated on Nowmanifest and in return, Nowmanifest gets the combined traffic of these blogs and gives them all a uniform look. Instead of placing a generic ad on Nowmanifest, Kurt Geiger has created its own blog (written by a character called Scarlet) and (presumably) paid to have it sit amongst the blogging elite, basking in their glow.

This is a much more discreet and credible way to do advertising, a genuinely engaging way to merge editorial and advertorial without obviously shoving product down the reader’s throat. It’s the first time I’ve seen advertorial approached like this. What do you think?

Chanel X Harrods takeover

Mondays aren’t known as a key day for launches and events in the fashion world. Fridays and Mondays are usually event-free to give us weary fashion folk the chance of a long weekend without the worry that we might be missing something major. But with so much to fit in before Fashion Month, including Fashion’s Night Out, last Monday was stacked with appointments. Boy am I glad I wasn’t out of town for the preview of the astonishing Chanel X Harrods takeover. (more…)

FNO Secret tees: they’re here!

Vogue Fashion’s Night Out is almost upon us and I said I’d give you the final low down on my Secret Tees project with Harvey Nichols. Well ta-da… here it is! I asked Sophy Robson, Dr Noki, Bip Ling, Quentin Jones, David David, Fred Butler and Yang Du to create a one-off T-shirt to be auctioned by Harvey Nichols for FNO, with all proceeds going to Kids Company. Disney and Louis Vuitton to collaborate?

An article in the FT this weekend examined the current flurry of high fashion and Disney collaborations. As well as recent collaborators Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Mawi and Chopard (who will launch a lavish €30,000 Mickey-themed collection in October), Disney’s vice-president of European consumer products, Marc Low revealed a couple of wish list names that Disney would love to partner with. “We would love to work with Marc Jacobs,” said Low, “he takes so much inspiration from the character world. Louis Vuitton is also a brand we’d love to work with for handbags.”

Disney are super strict about who they partner with as the company’s successes are built on its wholesome, family image and it steers clear of controversy. While I wouldn’t say that Marc was the squeakiest of designers, I think he would do something spectacular and highly collectible with Disney. It would certainly be preferable to SpongeBob SquarePants.

Who would be your dream high fashion Disney hook-up?
