If you don’t know who Tomas Maier is, he’s the designer who has been quietly toiling as creative director of Bottega Veneta since 2001. But he’s also well known for his own line of swimwear and casual-luxe separates, which are essential sartorial kit for any self-respecting island hopper.

Rest in peace handbag legend Judith Leiber, who died within hours of her husband last weekend at the age of 97. Her story was fascinating. An émigré from Budapest, she set up her own company in New York after learning her trade at Hungarian handbag-makers, Pessl. Her bags were a favourite of First Ladies – notably Nancy Reagan – but it was when she evolved from leather and satin to her surrealist crystal designs (in the shape of fruits, flowers and even Humpty Dumpty), that she found a cult following in showbiz A-listers and serious collectors. Michael Abramson MMX Gallery

Is it me or is there a wave of disco nostalgia in the air?

The Antonio Lopez film has put the hedonistic 70s on our radar and there seems to be a rash of disco-centric exhibitions doing the rounds. Michael Abramson: Tales from the South Side, 1970’s Chicago Clubs is a photo exhibition about to end its run at London’s MMX Gallery. With names like Perv’s House and the High Chaparral, Chicago’s discos boasted some very chic patrons, many of whom are captured by photo journo Abramson in full false-lashed, spread-collared splendour.
