Is it me or is there a wave of disco nostalgia in the air?

The Antonio Lopez film has put the hedonistic 70s on our radar and there seems to be a rash of disco-centric exhibitions doing the rounds. Michael Abramson: Tales from the South Side, 1970’s Chicago Clubs is a photo exhibition about to end its run at London’s MMX Gallery. With names like Perv’s House and the High Chaparral, Chicago’s discos boasted some very chic patrons, many of whom are captured by photo journo Abramson in full false-lashed, spread-collared splendour. Fashion shows may get all the Fashion Week media love but there’s a whole other side that people don’t see. They’re the less glamorous workhorses of the fashion calendar; the showrooms, re-sees and trade shows. While the menswear shows took all the Paris glory last month, I spent three days in a parallel universe with the team from Who’s Next and Premiere Classe, getting an insider’s look at the biannual trade show, with a few added leisure activities thrown in. Who are you? Louis Vuitton’s celebration of monogram

So here’s something I never knew: Karl Lagerfeld was once a boxer! Hence his monogrammed Louis Vuitton boxing gloves and punchbag as his contribution to the latest Louis Vuitton collaboration, Celebrating Monogram. It’s a pretty great project, not just because of the breadth of talent that was called upon to take part (Cindy Sherman! Rei Kawakubo! Frank Gehry!), but for the end results as well. (more…)
