Are trends irrelevant? I think not. We still like to have a bit of a directional steer when we shop, otherwise it’s just a wall of product. For me, I have my perennial go-to trends that swing in and out of popularity. While the rest of the world is in turmoil, one thing can be relied upon; a classic Raf Simons show. All the hallmarks were present and correct for SS19; a youth culture theme (this time the sweet spot between punk and new wave), inspiration-appropriate music (Bela Lugosi is Dead by Bauhaus) and intriguing clothes that made you want to pinch to zoom. NYFW has wrapped and London is the latest port of call on the Fashion Month schedule. Last year, my much loved cowboy boots bit the dust. I was gutted. Admittedly, they were kind of gross – far too overstated, balding ocelot, and so vast, they made my feet look like ocean liners. But I’d worn them for years and was very attached to them. (more…)
