London Fashion Week AW13: Day five highlights



London Fashion Week has flown by this season, partly due to the new menswear-free, five-day format, and partly because I’ve become much more focused. I’ve traditionally done as many shows as I can at LFW, but these days a) it’s impossible to see everything and b) it’s unnecessary. There are so many other ways to see collections without the battle of 9am starts and seating politics. Instagrams, Vines, live streaming and the almost-instant images uploaded on sites like Now Fashion and the genius GPS Radar app means you can get a pretty good sense of what’s happening without leaving your screen. London Collections: Men AW13 – from highland heritage to city subcultures



Can you forecast next season’s trends based on three days in one city? A little. Two stood out for me at London Collections: Men this week – neither very surprising. Menswear trends are a bit more predictable than womenswear because (as a rule) men like to shop for the familiar rather than the new. So we saw a ton of youth subculture references, plus many nods to Great British heritage and manufacturing. (more…)



Menswear for women from E. Tautz, Mr Start and A. Sauvage



Rihanna’s been causing quite the commotion lately, doing her Kanye-in-reverse thing of gadding about town in Acne and Raf Simons menswear. Kanye hit the headlines at Coachella last year cross-dressing in his Celine foulard-print blouse and Rihanna’s outing brings the trend full circle. I prefer my menswear a little more subtle so it’s great to see a few noted menswear brands (all Brits) giving women more or less what they offer men, with just the slightest modifications. (more…)
