THE DRG STYLE INDEX: TOPSHOP X SPOTIFY, REPOSSI, CHANEL, PIRELLI, NOT JUST A LABEL
Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…
1. THE NEW PIRELLI GIRLS
How amazing is the new Pirelli calendar? I’d much rather be inspired by Fran Lebowitz (for the month of May) than an oiled up Gisele, and if you’re not keen on Fran, take your pick from Tavi, Patti, Yoko, and more! Nice one Pirelli – and Annie Leibovitz – for subverting the perv calendar. Unforch, money can’t buy it, only 2000 were made and sent to VIPs :(
2. NOT JUST A LABEL – MADE IN NY
Not Just A Label is not just a website. It’s just taken residence at the Waldorf Astoria New York for a ten-day ‘retail hub’ selling its pick of 100 emerging NYC designers. It’s all in a bid to support the growth of the local fashion, manufacturing and creative industries and includes a programme of conversations around all things Made in New York, as well daily fashion film screenings. Head to NJAL for all the info – you can shop the designers on the site too.
3. LVMH TAKES MINORITY STAKE IN REPOSSI
Not surprised by this at all. LVMH has taken a minority stake in luxury jeweller Repossi, famous for its architectural pieces and its Celine-wearing creative figurehead Gaia Repossi. Branded fine jewellery is a growing luxury category, with women increasingly buying it for themselves. While the traditional Cartiers and Tiffanys are still hugely desirable, clued up women in emerging markets very often like to wear lesser-known, ‘cooler’ brands.
4. TOPSHOP X SPOTIFY
Topshop, always first with a clever techy retail initiative has opened its doors to Spotify. Head to the Spotify pop-up at Topshop’s Oxford Circus flagship and buy a three-month Spotify subscription for 99p instead of £9.99. It’s all happening in the Christmas Grotto…
5. CHANEL FASHION EMBRACES E-COMMERCE
Ok, it’s just eyewear, but still. Chanel dipped a toe in e-commerce by partnering with Net-a-Porter for its Coco Crush jewellery launch back in April, now it’s selling sunglasses on Chanel.com. For the moment it’s just U.S but the UK should get its turn next year. Read more on Luxury Daily.
