Congratulations to Soshi Otsuki, who just won the LVMH Prize.

Since launching as a menswear brand, Soshiotsuki, in 2015, his “distorted elegance” (also the name of his AW25 collection) in the tradition of Armani, Cerruti and even Studio Nicholson, now includes a number of women’s pieces.

To be specific, that means taking western men’s tailoring and filtering it through a Japanese lens – cardigan-soft fabrics, gentle gathering and draping, voluminous tailored trousers, enveloping knits – and juxtaposing them through careful styling. (more…)

HADES just teased this killer collab on Instagram. A teeny tiny capsule collection of four knits, three skirts and two scarves co-designed with Tilda Swinton and “inspired by Tilda herself, as well as four films from her filmography: Female Perversions, Last of England, Orlando and Suspiria”, it’s a great example of the niche HADES has carved celebrating cult artists and musicians in the medium of clothes. Cannes red carpet: garconnes do it better



What is it about the Cannes red carpet that’s so much more refined than other red carpets? Don’t answer that. I think I know the answer already.

American premieres and awards are super-planned and super-commercial, all about diamonds and deals. Somehow Cannes just seems a bit cooler. Here’s the evidence; Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg in classic garconne style – Birkin in Celine and Gainsbourg in Saint Laurent. (more…)

Am I the only person not to have seen ‘Call Me by Your Name’? This NYT profile of costume designer Giulia Piersanti (who is also a knitwear designer for brands like Céline and Balenciaga) is making me want to see it. I loved the Tilda Swindon costumes she did for director Luca Guadagnino’s 2015 masterpiece, ‘A Bigger Splash’. (more…)
