THE DRG STYLE INDEX: HERMES PARFUMERIE, COMME DES GARCONS E-COM, MATTHEW MILLER, SWATCH
Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…
1. HERMES OPENS A STANDALONE PARFUMERIE
Hermès is going to great lengths to big up its fragrance and beauty division. Such as, opening a parfumerie in downtown Manhattan. The 1,000-square-foot space at Brookfield Place, New York’s new high-end retail destination, will house all the fragrances, plus an exclusive candle called The Shop Around the Corner, designed by Céline Ellena.
2. MATTHEW MILLER EMBRACES WOMENSWEAR
Exciting times for those like me, who love Matthew Miller’s menswear aesthetic and want to co-opt it for themselves. Miller is fully embracing his female fans with a dedicated collection just for us, because buyers were “chasing us for sales appointments”. Thank you buyers… WWD has the story.
3. COMME E-COMMERCE IS COMING
I drove past the new Haymarket Dover Street Market several times during LFW (sometimes several times a day), and I’m glad to report the old Burberry’s (sic) clock* is still in situ. This 1Granary interview with Comme Des Garcons president Adrian Joffe is an enlightening read on his take on social media, the cult of cool and the craziness of our incessant new-in culture. Plus, he confirms that Comme e-commerce (there’s a pun in there somewhere) is coming…
4. THE SWATCH FOR THE SELFIE GENERATION
I’m loving how Swatch is getting its fashion groove back. I still think it should have a ‘name’ creative director on board (hey Swatch, I’m available!), but these emoji watches are super-fun for the selfie generation. And I’m happy to note that Swatch now offers a free battery replacement service in its store. My Swatches are all bundled up and ready to go as I type…
*The new store will be on the same site as an ancient Burberry store, or Burberry’s, as it was formerly known
