Last chance for Farfetch X Meadham Kirchhoff

I never know quite what to make of Meadham Kirchhoff. Fiercely independent, one minute they’re anti the fashion system, the next they’re playing the game – but strictly on their terms. The Topshop extravaganza was their first big foray into the mainstream, followed by a collaboration with Amazon (Amazon? You can’t get more mass than that!) and now a neat project with Farfetch.com.

Along with Gary Card, Margot Bowman and Melinda Gibson, Benjamin Kirchhoff and Ed Meadham have created custom festive giftwrap (above) for the curated online marketplace and to go with, cooperated on a behind the scenes video. Farfetch managed to get a pretty good insight into the design philosophies, inspirations and processes from the famously prickly duo.

The giftwrap is a lovely way of adding some Meadham Kirchhoff magic to Christmas wrapping (especially as their RTW line is not cheap) and even more so if, ahem, you’re the self gifting type. But be quick, the custom wrapping paper is only available until 19th December.

Library corner: Diane Von Furstenberg And The Tale Of The Empress’s New Clothes

My personal highlight of this year’s Vogue Festival (which returns on 28-29 April 2013) was the Diane Von Furstenberg talk. What a woman! What incredible stories! And there’s more where they come from because Camilla Morton has just added Diane Von Furstenberg And The Tale Of The Empress’s New Clothes to her repertoire of modern fashion fairytales. Following on from Christian Lacroix And The Tale Of Sleeping Beauty and Manolo Blahnik’s The Elves And The Shoemaker, Morton has woven her version of The Emperor’s New Clothes into the legend of DVF and the making of her fashion empire. Lahssan X Façonnable

I love what French label Lahssan has been doing with its deconstructed trench coats, favourited by the Tommy Tom set (Elisa Nalin, Natalie Joos et al) and influential stores like The Shop at Bluebird, Opening Ceremony and 10 Corso Como Tokyo).

To take his influence further, designer Dryce (one name only) has collaborated with Riviera heritage brand Façonnable to produce a capsule line of fun macs in Lichtenstein-esque primary-hued stripes. And naturally, he enlisted Tommy Ton and Elisa Nalin to shoot, style and model the look book. Watch out for the line when it arrives in Spring…
