Happy birthday Cy Twombly!
I’ve just been re-reading this old 032c article on a 1966 Vogue shoot featuring Cy Twombly’s sublime Italian palazzo apartment. Apparently the Vogue feature (shot by Horst.P.Horst) was later considered detrimental to his reputation, positioning him as ‘a decorator ‘ rather than a serious artist. While that’s rather farfetched, I can kind of see why in these Horst pictures; I wouldn’t say no to a Twombly-decorated house…. (more…)

My distaste of Instagram brows and ‘flawless’, matte-finish foundation can be traced to my early-90s initiation into beauty rituals. Although it was the decade of Kevyn Aucoin and his haute supermodels, it also saw the parallel (and arguably more influential) rise of Bridget Hall’s outdoorsy glow and Annie Morton’s morning-after-the-night before undereye shadow.
