Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS13: Paul Smith



My main takeaway from Paul Smith ss13? The world needs more pink suits. (And red, and yellow, and peach.) I love these proportions – short ‘DB8’ jacket (i.e. double-breasted, eight buttons), slim, above-the-ankle trousers, plus note the slightly higher heel too, to ‘create an upright posture’ apparently… (more…)



Duke Vin and the Birth of Ska



I watched Gus Berger’s excellent documentary, Duke Vin and the Birth of Ska down at Rootikal on Friday night. A 45-minute history lesson on the origins of ska, it has fantastic footage of the early blues and ska parties in the UK plus sound bites from Duke Vin, Don Letts and Jerry Dammers. Recommended…



Elton John’s Prism glasses



Oh to have been a fly on the wall in Anna Laub’s meeting with Elton John! The Prism eyewear designer was commissioned to hand make some bespoke glasses for Elton’s Vegas shows. Who else would have their name spelt out in disco crystals?

The genius of Harper’s Bazaar’s fashion-music-supermodel sandwich




It’s a long time since I got this excited about a magazine cover but Harper’s Bazaar UK has done it for me. A few months ago, there was a flurry of excitement on Twitter as editor Lucy Yeomans dropped hints about a groundbreaking Harper’s cover shoot she had been on. Duran Duran was mentioned, supermodels were mentioned and, well, that was enough to pique my interest*. (more…)
