Buy it now: Autumn drops

Sad but true: I have the heating on in July. Retailers are taking advantage by pumping out their early fall merchandise – jumpers, jackets and coats – to compensate for the lack of summer pick-up. You can’t blame them, winterwear makes more money than summer because knits cost thrice as much as tees. Ah well, here’s my early fall fantasy shopping list…

The blue shirt: the great equaliser

Thursday evening saw the launch of Acne’s Snowdon Blue book/shirt/exhibition project. On show until 13th May at the Acne store (13 Dover Street, W1) is an inspiring display of Lord Snowdon’s portrait photography, each subject a vision in blue. A clever, organic concept, it all started six months ago when Snowdon’s daughter (and head of his archive), Frances von Hofmannsthal took her idea for a Snowdon Blue book to Acne’s Jonny Johansson. Trend report: Liberty AW12 press day highlights

Liberty‘s press day is one of the highlights of the whole 2-month-long press day circuit. There’s always something new going on with the store (this year it’s the extension of the accessories hall into a space that will reach back to Kingly Street opening on May 1st) and the buyers are on hand to chat through their choices. Womenswear buyer Stephanie Jones, who I first met doing the Liberty Best Of British Open Call last year, gave me a wee tour… (more…)
