THE DRG STYLE INDEX: Le Kilt, Dior, Gucci, Veja and more!

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands and industry stories currently buzzing on my radar…

Le Kilt Denim
The brilliant Sam McCoach has branched into denim with her latest offering from Le Kilt. The keep-forever denim pieces are manufactured in the UK from raw, rigid denim by Blackhorse Lane Ateliers. It continues her slow fashion ethos using upcycled leftover fabric from her collections to create contrasting panels. Buy it here.

Pet Shop Boys by David Sims
Currently loving how the Pet Shop Boys are having a high fashion moment. First they soundtracked the Burberry September show, now they’re starring in the Dior menswear summer 18 campaign, shot by David Sims. Actually (no pun intended), they’ve always been in tune with fashion, but it’s nice to see them properly in the spotlight…

Gucci Garden Florence
We’ve seen a huge spurt in heritage house fashion museums and exhibitions in the last 10 years. Every major house now seems to have its dedicated museum, while Gucci’s has recently undergone something of a reinvention. It has just unveiled Gucci Garden’ in Florence, which now comprises a lavish exhibition space, store and restaurant, all realised in accordance with Alessandro Michele’s eccentric, extravagant vision. Just don’t call it a museum. “It’s more like a bazaar,” says Michele. “I love the variety of different things that are combined in an authentic and spirited way.” Def want to visit.

4. VEJA V-10

Veja V-10 trainers
Shit bloggers wear, part 34,985. OK blogger tribe, I’m calling it. I predict Veja is going to have a major moment in 2018. It’s just arrived at Net-a-Porter and I think the V-10s are going to be the It trainer for anti-fashion fashion types. It got the dorky minimalist look of a Stan Smith with solid eco credentials. The understated branding and slightly chunky sole makes it a good pairing with everything from pretty-grungy dresses to trousers suits. Buy it here

I really really want a Team La Garconne tee

The Liberty Open Call is back! I helped judged this contest a few years ago and it was a super-fun way to discover new brands and pass on advice. (The post is here if you want a re-cap.) This year it’s being done on Instagram and it’s zoning in on homewares. Here’s how to enter and get the chance to be stocked at Liberty.

The diffusion line returns, the Off-White way

Love this Guardian story on the birth of Swatch watches. “I remember standing in The Plaza hotel in New York and noticing that all the yuppies were wearing Swatches. It was a statement: “I don’t need a Rolex.””
