Kim Jones is leaving Louis Vuitton
Big news of the week: Kim Jones is leaving his post as Louis Vuitton artistic director of menswear. I’ve loved his collections at LV – so many things I would happily wear. And I like how he tied his collections to cultural movements in art and music. Remember the Christopher Nemeth collaboration? And the disco collection? And who can forget the controversial Supreme collab, which was extremely polarising but I loved the Basquiat-era styling (top).
So, where to next for Kim Jones? I’d like to see him at Burberry (alongside Phoebe Philo for womenswear) but I’m not sure either would want to share. And that’s all still unannounced (or unfilled). That said, dude knows how to create exciting outerwear. Here’s some eye candy from Louis Vuitton SS18…
While the Kim Jones news is filtering through, there are naturally other murmurings going on. Such as, how long will Nicolas Ghesquiere last at Louis Vuitton womenswear? I love an underdog, so while Ghesquiere is getting all the hate (“he’s not relevant” etc…), I’m actually a big fan of the current collection. The architectural tailcoats and sportified 18th century blouses are fantastic in the flesh. The trainers are bonkers but fab and you know how I feel about the eyewear. I just wish he would align himself with some more interesting celebs than dull old actresses.
Read more here and watch this space for updates. Anything to distract me from the Bruce Weber news (of which I’m in total disbelief and denial)…
