Despite my long-standing aversion to mules, I’m inexplicably attracted to Prada’s SS24 mini mules. They’re now available online and are likely to be taking over your IG feed adorning the soles of the Fashion Month street style set imminently.

Mule advocate Manolo Blahnik once said, “When you walk in mules, you walk a bit differently. It’s very sexy to me”. Maybe it’s the concentration and slow walking pace required to keep the pesky things from flying off your feet, but I do find high mules to be high maintenance and very ‘male gaze’. Gentlewoman style: Toteme time



Toteme AW24 fashion show

If Toteme is trying to be the affordable(ish) Row, it’s succeeding. Its stealth AW24 fashion show during couture week delivered lean trench coats and floor-sweeping trousers styled with the airiest of scarf-neck blouses, while its new Mount Street store is a shrine to tailoring, leatherwear, handbags (that T-lock!*) and jewellery as polished as its more expensive neighbours (but with much more welcoming sales staff) .

I suspect having established its early position in the stealth luxe sphere, Toteme will start to add a few more unpredictable designs and styling twists to keep our interest piqued (more…)

The existential poetry of the overstuffed bag

Will we ever not be eternally fascinated by the ‘what’s in my bag’ trope? This SS24 – surprise! – capacious bags are trending, and not only are they big, they’re stuffed to the brim. Aligning with the outpouring of Jane Birkin love (and hot takes on her bulging Birkin), Miu Miu’s SS24 show was lauded for its chaotic bag energy – each exit showed a model toting a classic bowling bag, top handle or tote overflowing with spare shoes, keys and clothes. Rethinking a casual staple



J Crew 1989 Heritage cagoule

I don’t know if life is one big algorithm now, but these hooded cagoules seem to be following me around online and IRL.

The seed was first planted last summer via a pinky-orange Loro Piana number in a Harper’s Bazaar editorial. So un-utilitarian, so unexpected, so cool! Then the eau de nil cocktail cagoule from Carven SS24 (below) captured our hearts with its audacious banana sleeves and heavy satin drape. The anti-nylon pac-a-mac, this one is definitely not intended for inclement weather. (more…)
