Valextra’s new direction with Alvaro Gonzalez

Valextra is about to get a whole lot more attention and I’m slightly torn. New design director Alvaro Gonzalez (previously at Jimmy Choo) has injected a glam fashion element to the Valextra SS14 offer with some shinier textures and softer shapes. Just look at the Trick Track in alligator below. I was always a fan of Valextra’s quiet modernist aesthetic so I’m hoping it won’t lose that, but I can’t deny that these bags are going to bring it more mainstream attention. (I have a hunch there will be more celebrity gifting too.)

Some of the designs showed up on Instagram. You can have a peek here…

Burberry-Prorsum-ss14-coats

Burberry showed a lot of coats on it’s Spring-Summer 2014 runway. Of course, they were light spring coats, not heavy wool ones. And they were knitted, rather than waterproofs.

As is Burberry’s way, you can order these now online, meaning they will work for autumn as well as spring.

Here are three of my favourites – you have until September 30th to get your order in:

London Fashion Week SS14: Day 5 highlights

A new leathergoods name on my radar: La Contrie. It’s not cheap, it’s all bespoke and beautifully made – think Hermes, and you’re on the right track. The simple shapes in luxe skins stood out for me, particularly this crocodile bag…

Christopher-Kane-LFW-Daily

Christopher Kane is a hotter ticket than ever and some suggested there was evidence he’s been Kering-ed. Well, there were certainly a lot of entry-level sweatshirts on show, AKA the new product category that’s proved a winning formula for Kenzo and Givenchy. Along with the hologram dresses (above, what were they made of?) and revisited Princess Margaret pleat pieces, I was wowed by these epic applique pop art dresses. Just brilliant.
