Beauty snippets: Nars nails, Clinique, YSL, Carol Joy, Faberge, hotel beauty

I really need to hurry up and get my hands on the Thakoon for Nars nail collection. Inspired by Indian festivals (when is Tim Walker going to do a Holi-themed shoot?), there are six of these searing bright colours to try. (Hmmm, in the UK the red is mysteriously missing…) [EDIT: OK Hafsa just pointed out in the comments that the red is exclusive to the Nars site. Clever!] (more…)

Something about Mathilde Laurent…

At Cartier’s launch for its new Declaration d’un Soir men’s fragrance yesterday (on sale October), I met in-house ‘nose’ Mathilde Laurent, a self proclaimed neo punk. “I like to listen to The Cure and Siouxie and the Banshees really really loudly in the office!” she revealed when discussing how she goes about her working day. Brands as content creators: Armani launches Tweet Talks

Latest on the ‘brands as content creators’ tip: Armani is launching a series of discussions around the fashion industry, all to take place on Twitter. First look at Aerin Lauder’s new make-up line

I mentioned Aerin Lauder’s new own-name brand last week. This week, I came across the first picture of the make-up line. I’m seeing shades of Estee Lauder (unsurprisingly), YSL and Tom Ford in the angular gold packaging, which to be honest is alright by me; I make no secret of the fact that I buy beauty prods as much for the packaging as the goodies therein. Not sure how much the world needs another line of luxe neutrals but then, this is all about branding. Get that right and you can sell anything you want. What’s interesting is that Aerin (as the brand is known) has soft-launched itself on Twitter and Tumblr first, selling the Aerin dream life and aesthetic before there’s any hint of product. Even if you weren’t an Estee Lauder girl, and you don’t need another latte-coloured lipstick, there’s no denying there’s something extremely appealing about the Aerin ‘ski lodge in Aspen’ Lauder lifestyle. On that basis alone, I’m sold.
