New In: Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint foundation and Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream

The camellia flower is synonymous with Chanel. It’s the minimalist white flower that you see on accessories, prints and even engraved on buttons and was the flower that Gabrielle Chanel’s lover, Boy Capel presented to her. It doesn’t have a smell but it does, it turns out, have some magical skincare properties.

Chanel’s skincare lab created its camellia-extract ‘Camellia Alba PFA’ (stick with me) a while ago. It’s a mainstay of the Hydra Beauty skincare line, of which the cult water-gel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum is one of my Holy Grail products.

Perfect pairing: Birkenstocks and chunky socks

Warning! I’m about to go through a hippie phase. I’ve got the meditation app, I’m desperate for a poncho (but this Pendleton blanket will do for now) and I’m besotted with these shearling-lined Birkenstocks.

Buy it now: classic jeans and sweats for spring

Time for some jeans and sweats news, as I’m about to chuck off the knits and go into slightly lighter layer territory.

I live in jeans and my go-to cut is generally an as-loose-as-I-can-get-away-with boyfriend fit, or a straight cut that’s my smart option to wear with a stack heel boot and a blazer. My current default is a pair of two-year-old dark indigo Arket jeans that have a high waist and a straight, wide-ish leg but alas, they’re sold out on site. Spring is in the air, which means it’s time for the annual rose beauty roundup. I really like subtle rose fragrances in skincare and slightly stronger ones in my body oils and potions. There are studies that show rose oil can have numerous therapeutic effects, from analgesic to physiological; for me it’s definitely up there with lavender as a calming, comforting scent.
