Coming soon – the Marques’Almeida pop-up shop in Hackney. Blink and you’ll miss it cos it’s only open from 28th August to 1st September. I’m not sure what it’ll sell but I’d say it’s worth a nose anyway. Remember, these are the guys responsible for all the ripped-to-shreds denim we’ve been enjoying for the last few seasons and the grungy crenellated heels that will dominate the next six months. Yasmin Sewell curates Beach In The East

That photo above is from the Disneyrollergirl archives, AKA a pile of scrapbooks and box files containing years worth of photos, cuttings, and ephemera that I’ve held onto ‘just in case’. Yasmin Cho was a late ’90s shop on a first floor in Poland Street, an out-of-sight destination that you had to want to find in order to visit it. Run by Yasmin Sewell, it stocked a curated mix of under-radar labels like Susan Cianccolo, Carol Christian Poell, and Rick Owens. You had to press a buzzer to get in and the sign on the door was made up of coloured sticky dots. Fast forward 15 years and Yasmin Sewell’s early concept has come full circle with a Shoreditch pop-up space called Beach In the East. (more…)

Retail trend: Frocks and flowers



Flowers aren’t the easiest things to buy when you’re fashion shopping, but still, I like the idea. From COS’ pop-ups with Clifton Nurseries, to Chanel’s clever Mother’s Day flower stand (in situ at Chanel’s Covent Garden beauty boutique ’til tomororow – buy 100ml of fragrance and pick up a hand-tied posy), fashion retailers are embracing the senses with their floral tributes.

To add to the roll call, Oasis has teamed up with florists Rebel Rebel to open a pop-up shop in its Argyll Street store. Prices are pretty reasonable – from £5 for the small flower pots planted in retro tins – and the shop is in place until the end of the month.

Introducing: Winser London



It might be Fashion Month but life isn’t all about Marni-esque print and wacko Celine ‘fur-kenstocks’. Sometimes you want a palate-cleanser, a just-so silk shirt with double cuffs for example, or a high quality trench that will travel with you from spring to winter without the Rue Saint-Honore price tag.
