Buy it now: Mother’s Day beauty buys
What do you get your mum for Mother’s Day? I don’t always have to worry about this one as my mum lives abroad and is usually pretty happy with a card, flowers and a phone call. But I think you can’t go wrong with something pretty or pampery in lovely packaging. Here are a few beauty ideas that I like in case you’re still stuck…
ESTEE LAUDER’S MAD MEN COLLECTION
This bold packaging is ever-so-slightly kitsch, but in a charming, Pucci-ish way, not a tacky way. And the colours are highly wearable. The shell-pink nail polish is a great, suits-all shade for spring (it is spring now isn’t it?), and who wouldn’t want to whip out the blusher compact at any moment? The limited edition collection launches on Monday to coincide with the season premiere of the sixth series of Mad Men. Prices from £20 for the nail lacquer.
BOBBI BROWN LILAC ROSE
Me and my mum (and my sister for that matter) swear by Bobbi Brown for our everyday makeup. I got my mum hooked on Bobbi Brown lip glosses so I know she would love these from the Lilac Rose collection. I think soft rosy pinks are so much more flattering than darker nudes for day, you can apply them without a mirror and just get on with whatever you need to do. Plus the consistency of BB glosses is fantastic. This collection has just gone on sale nationwide.
CHANEL FRAGRANCE AND FLOWERS GWP
How’s this for an inspired idea from Chanel? From 8th-10th March, this flower stall will be stationed outside the Chanel beauty boutique in Covent Garden (it’s bang opposite the Apple store). Buy a 100ml bottle of one of the iconic Chanel fragrances and get a hand-tied posy using the flowers from the fragrances. Now that’s a great GWP, no? You can even have a personalised message for your ma written in caligraphy on a special Camelia-embossed card…
FORNASETTI OTTO CANDLE
If your mum loves the fine things in life, I’m convinced she will absolutely adore this Fornasetti Profumi candle (£99). Not ‘just’ a candle, it comes in a decorative Fornasetti ceramic lidded jar, to be enjoyed lit or unlit. The Otto scent is a delicious warm, woody fragrance, perfect for restful Sunday evenings…
DIPTIQUE SOLID PERFUME
Another fragrance suggestion; this is so luxurious, yet practical (possibly my favourite combination) that I don’t know why more brands don’t do it. It’s the Diptyque solid perfume which comes in different scents but my favourite is this L’Ombre Dans L’eau – a sweet but not cloying combination of blackcurrant leaves and Bulgarian rose created to evoke the scent of forgotten English garden. For £28 you get an elegant, engraved metal compact that feels nice and weighty in the hand but is sensibly sized for travelling or just day-to-day. Available at SpaceNK.

YES I needed some inspiration! And Mother did really like the Fornasetti teacups when we were last in Liberty.
