Is this the chicest china in WC2? Laduree has opened a Covent Garden outpost in the heart of The Piazza with a balcony overlooking the buskers. It joins the newly opened Burberry Brit store (a minute away in King Street) and the soon-to-come Balthazar in the ‘Opera Quarter’, due this autumn. Years before the blogosphere was even a twinkle in Mr Blogspot’s eye, I was a ‘fashion expert’ for an online fashion site. My task was to answer real time fashion queries from readers – everything on what to wear to a prom when you’re 5’2″ and size 20 to where to find Earl jeans (remember them?). My editor used to call me ‘the Mother Teresa for the style-free and stunted’. Tsk.
Actually, I loved it and I’m back in the game every Thursday in June but with a speeded-up, 21st century twist. Style Compare’s Twitter #StyleSOS kicks off on 2nd June at 4pm for one hour. I thought my Twitter habit was bad but apparently it’s about to get worse. The Royal Wedding has highlighted the trend for something called ‘two screening’ where people congregate round the telly to watch and tweet a running commentary of the most popular TV programmes. For me it started with Mary Queen of Shops, entertaining on its own but even more fun when reading the tweets of fellow viewers. (more…)
