THE DRG STYLE INDEX: The Cords & Co, Farfetch, MAC, Re/Done, Maison Trudon and more!

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands and industry stories currently buzzing on my radar…

1. THE CORDS AND CO

The Cords & Co classic premium corduroy brand
In a season which is going to see corduroy take centre stage, it’s a good time to launch a premium brand called The Cords & Co. The Stockholm-based brand launched last week, opening stores in six cities simultaneously. The product is great – very simple styles in good colours. My favourite cuts are the Mom and the Sofia, and the Pop jacket in white is a good bet too. (Thanks to my friends at Born Store for the tip-off.)

2. BROWNS IS THE STORE OF THE FUTURE

Browns Farfetch Store of the future
Not long now til we see the first iteration of the Farfetch ‘store of the future’. Opening in Shoreditch in October, It will operate as Browns, giving customers a seamless ‘phygital’ experience that uses personal digital data to offer them the best physical service. I’m interested in this because I prefer a physical shopping experience over the pain points of online. This model hopes to marry the two with smart mirrors which can order different sizes or colours to the changing room. Plus a radio-frequency identification (RFID) enabled merchandise system will pick up human movements and digitally add pieces browsed by customers to their personal app wishlist.

3. MAC VIVA GLAM X NICKI MINAJ

File under things I never thought I’d say – I’m loving the latest MAC X Nicki Minaj lip collection, all neurtral pinks and creamy toffee shades. This time around Nicki has created two limited edition custom shades – Nicki’s Nude and Pinkprint (a pink-toned nude) – which drop on September 1st. The shades are part of the Viva Glam campaign, in which the full RRP (less V.A.T) of Viva Glam lipsticks and lipglass goes to the MAC AIDS Fund. And if that doesn’t float you boat, then how’s this? Finally, after years of campaigning, a MAC Aaliyah collection is on the cards (but not til next year)…

4. CINDY CRAWFORD X RE/DONE

Cindy Crawford did a jean for Re/Done. And yeah, there’s a waiting list…

5. MAISON TRUDON DOES PERFUME

Trudon perfume

Revered French scented candlemaker Maison Trudon has launched its first fragrances. Not one but five unisex fragrances have been created by three perfumers, referencing religion, royalty and revolution. Those references are relevant as Maison Trudon famously supplied candles to Versailles up to the last days of the Ancient Regime and survived through the French Revolution. I love the sound of Revolution (what a great name), created by Lyn Harris. A cocktail of woody, incense and leather notes, it aims to evoke the pungent streets of Paris during the Revolution. Meanwhile, Deux is an all-season cologne conjuring up forest pines, incense and a top citrus note of orange bigarade. The bottles are gorgeous, made from pine green glass to mimic the cult candles and topped with a rippled glass cap. Check out all five perfumes here.
