(Updated) Westman Atelier has launched
Gucci Westman’s capsule beauty line, Westman Atelier has landed and the FT has the lowdown on it (sub req). Make-up artist Westman says, “I believe there’s space in the market for a luxury beauty brand that speaks to wellness and integrity. We almost exclusively just use clean, plant-derived ingredients, but everything is also really . . . chic.”
By ‘almost exclusively’, she concedes that on occasion she has included a synthetic ingredient rather than compromising on a beautiful product or super-effective technology. While the plant-first approach is commendable, I think it’s also smart to be realistic about what her customers want. In this case, that’s a focused collection of products that aim to give an effortless look with superior formulas. It’s almost the anti-Charlotte Tilbury in its minimalism, which I love.
For now, the collection is on pre-order at Barneys, delivering in July (UPDATE: It’s launched!). I’m desperate to get my hands on this Beauty Butter Powder Bronzer (below), formulated with cocoa seed, mango seed, and cupuacu butters. (No idea what cupuacu butters are but I’ll take them if they come in this golden pebble-smooth compact.)

Looking forward to this! I’ve been a CT fan from the beginning and have a rose gold make-up bag to prove it. I do think that CT is getting a bit over the top, maybe too many products at this point. The original concept of “looks” is gone. I understand introducing new items but they are losing focus. Westman Atelier seems fresh. Here’s hoping!

That’s interesting SuWu. I wasn’t bashing Charlotte Tilbury – I think the products are excellent, but the aesthetic is very glam and ‘done’. This feels like a refreshing ‘less is more’ approach that’s about having good looking skin rather than the more creative approach of C-Tilbs with her varied looks and gazillion highlighting and sculpting products. (I’m sure in time more products will be added to this range!)

Oh I know you weren’t bashing and there’s room for each look depending on the occasion. As for “less is more”, we were all schooled this past weekend, wouldn’t you agree?
