On Friends, Food, Family… (ok, mostly food)

I can’t complain. London’s had one of the best and longest summers of recent years, with endless hazy sunshine stretching all through September. Utter bliss! But now it’s about cosying up and hunkering down and for many that means food, friends and family.

Just after London Fashion Week, I went to the launch of Sasha Wilkins’ (aka Liberty London Girl) clever new book, aptly called Friends, Food, Family. It’s full of Sasha’s legendary (if you follow her blog or tweets) comfort food recipes including triple-layer lemon cake, halloumi, avocado and chickpea salad, and fried gnocchi with mozzarella and tomatoes (yes, lots of veggie options). The Meaning of Things at The Gilbert Scott

What do you get when you gather a handful of fashion and beauty bloggers and editors around the chef’s table at The Gilbert Scott brasserie, accompanied by gin cocktails and a different wine with every course? A long and rather merry debate is the answer.

Three weeks ago, I hosted an evening at ‘the kitchen table’ of The Gilbert Scott, part of the wonderfully gothic St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in King’s Cross. Renovated in 2011 from George Gilbert Scott’s original Midland Grand Hotel, it’s one of London’s most dramatic landmarks. (more…)



Friday feast: Beagle, E2



Oh lucky, lucky Hoxtonites, you’re in for a right culinary treat this summer! New to E2 is Beagle, a restaurant-bar-coffee-shop, conveniently located next to Hoxton Station, that specialises in British cooking of the kind creative young East Londoners love most.
