Walkable heels: Louboutin’s Mistica

I wrote about walkable Loubutins last year for Lyst but had never been able to pin down Sofia Coppola’s exact model. (The press office deduced that these were an old style – typical.)  Instead, I’ve discovered the next best thing, the Mistica, which has a sensible 60mm heel and low cut toe box. Obviously, the flash of red on the sole is what gives these their va va voom. Without, it would leave a rather plain court shoe but I guess that’s the power of the Louboutin signature for you! Mistica is a great shoe for daytime power meetings if you want a bit of elevation but don’t have a Wintour-style town car at your disposal. I’d wear them with my Club Monaco 7/8th trousers and a 3.1 Phillip Lim blouse.
Christian Louboutin Mistica AW11

Alas, I can’t find these online in the UK (Louboutin’s ecomerce operation is in the planning stages) but you can buy from the US Louboutin site or from Harrods (£375).

Anja Rubik for Kurt Geiger AW11 campaign

Bloggers may be stealing a march on celebs in the ‘face of’ stakes but you can’t beat a good old fashioned supermodel when it comes to a really slick campaign. Kurt Geiger has tapped Anja Rubik as the face of its campaign for AW11. The brand was recently bought by the US-based Jones Group who has clearly set its sights on international expansion. What do you think of Eric Tortensson’s picture of Rubik? Does it make you want to drop a bundle on cute animal-print bootees?

Vans go wild

These YSL Vans-style shoes are all sorts of fabulous. Back in their hey day, Vans were quite often produced in the maddest, campest prints and colours, it all went with the punk-surf territory. But YSL aren’t the first to do a punk-luxe skate shoe – remember the Giles Deacon Bottega Venetas of 2000? Electric pink and black leopard print canvas with clutch bags to match – ah yes, I remember them well. (more…)

On Bass Weejuns, Tommy Hilfiger and the hunt for the perfect loafer

Continuing my Vassar Girls theme, I’m currently obsessing about the demise of the beloved Bass Weejun. I used to admire them from afar as a teen when the rich kids at school used to buy theirs from Meenies in Kensington High Street or The Natural Shoe Store. (more…)
