Calvin Klein: Nostalgia or Now?

Lots of people have been in my DMs asking for my thoughts on the Calvin Klein Collection reboot. Lies! One person asked, but I’m here to share my two cents anyway.

This show was the most highly anticipated of NYFW. If the relaunch of a 5-decades-old label is what’s getting people hyped about NYFW, that says rather a lot about the state of ennui. So, Veronica Leoni (formerly of The Row and Phoebe’s Celine) had a great deal resting on her spaghetti-strapped shoulders.

The show was beautiful. It was clean, serene, elegant and poised. It looked like 1990s Old Calvin. But is that a compliment? Or a problem? (more…)

Two quick takeaways from the Tod’s AW24 show. Precision-pressed creases on overlong tailored trousers to give a super-lengthening effect to legs (above and below). And the double-shirt styling – so simple and achievable (above and bottom).

Pressed creases are a trend that continues where Prada left off. Mrs Prada, that is. Her deliberate steam-creased skirt folds went viral after appearing in M Le magazine du Monde last year (below). But if you’re going to attempt this look, do it like you mean it. (more…)



Ready for the drop

Is it me manifesting the 1924-style optimism of the deco-era or is there really a rising tide of flapper-esque dresses and hip-riding silhouettes on the horizon? Putting aside my theory that the 2020s hasn’t properly started yet and that 2024 could be The Year (admittedly based on nothing more than blind hope), the evidence is pointing to the latter. Black Friday may be all anyone can talk about this week, but I’m over it already. I’m all about, er, Red Thursday.

To counter the unflattering November light, I’ve got my eye on this rustic red Babaà no61 jumper with its cropped balletic proportions (below) or the COS Campbell’s Soup red funnel neck jumper* (US link here*, above) – suitably slouchy to accommodate a HeatTech layer – or three. (more…)
