Luna Luna, a fantastical (but true) story

Are you as blown away as I am by the Luna Luna story?

The forgotten art funfair, initiated in Germany in 1987 by Austrian artist André Heller, then tragically left to languish in storage for 35 years – including surreal and often macabre rides by the likes of Haring, Basquiat, Scharf and a whole list of other 20th century art notables. The story is a movie-worthy tale in itself (the whole shebang recently rescued and revived by… Drake of all people), but the art and the accompanying catalogue are just as mindblowing.

Today’s iteration, Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy has just reopened in Los Angeles showing 16 of the restored carousels, pavilions and Ferris wheels as a look-but-don’t-touch experience. (more…)

When Britain Went Pop!

I haven’t been to the Barbican’s Pop Art Design exhibition yet but it’s top of my list of things to do. Meanwhile, I have been to the new Christie’s Mayfair gallery space in New Bond Street which is currently showing When Britain Went Pop!

Art meets fashion: Robert Indiana X Lisa Perry

Ohhh be still my beating pop art love heart. Lisa Perry has a collection launching in September that beautifully reimagines the graphic goodness of Robert Indiana. As much as I love Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, their aesthetics have been well and truly rinsed by the fashion world. Indiana is still relatively untouched by fashion and it looks like Perry has done a respectful job in realising his typography and targets in her clothes and accessories. Last chance for Lichtenstein

Yikes, where is the time going? This week is the last chance to see Lichtenstein – A Retrospective at Tate Modern and I managed to get my eye in fashionably late last week. If you love his classic dot artworks, this is a chance to see them in huge scale which is really not to be missed. Most people are familiar with the War and Romance era, the comic-book style ‘WHAMM!’s and melodramatic close-ups of women in distress. (more…)
