When Britain Went Pop!

David-Hockney-Swimming-Pool-1965

I haven’t been to the Barbican’s Pop Art Design exhibition yet but it’s top of my list of things to do. Meanwhile, I have been to the new Christie’s Mayfair gallery space in New Bond Street which is currently showing When Britain Went Pop!

Oh. My! This is bloody good. It’s in central London, it’s free and its possibly the best collation of British pop art I’ve ever seen in one space. Hockneys, Blakes, Paolozzis, Hamiltons, Kitajs…they’re all here in vast, hyper-colour glory generously arrayed over four floors.

The 1940s Paolozzis collages are worthy of a visit alone. As are the early Hockneys. I can’t wait to go again (and again).
