Finally, the worst kept secret in fashion has been confirmed. Having waited out his non-compete with Dior, Raf Simons has been announced as the Chief Creative Officer of Calvin Klein.
It’s a major undertaking (worth $18 million) and I hope he will prove to be worth every cent of it. I love Raf, as do many. He has kept his integrity in everything he has done and I’m very excited to see the
back of generic influencers like Kendal Jenner fresh point of view he will bring to Calvin Klein.
In the 90s, when I entered the fashion industry, Calvin Klein was as significant as Prada, Celine and Vetements all rolled into one. It was a game-changer and like Raf, Calvin Klein himself had a unique and authentic point of view. It’s going to be particularly revealing to see how Simons reinvents C.K and the denim lines, the youth-focused divisions that chime with his own passions. But like everyone else, I’m desperate to see what he and his new creative director Pieter Mulier do with Calvin Klein Collection and accessories. No pressure then, no pressure at all…
