Buy it now: Jo Malone Christmas 2017
Christmas in July at Jo Malone London is always an unexpected treat. You just never know what you’re going to get. I mean, would you have predicted pop-art colours and a candy pink perfume bottle for Jo Malone Christmas 2017?
There’s a reason for the cacophony of colour and that’s because Jo Malone London has worked with Jonathan Saunders on the creative concept. Jonathan Saunders ran his own British fashion label for over ten years before exporting his talent stateside as chief creative officer of Diane von Furstenberg. He was clearly a bit homesick though, hence this collab with the very English JML brand.
So from this extremely non-traditional Jo Malone Christmas 2017 collection, here are my highlights.
Firstly, the cologne is an utterly mouthwater concoction called ‘Green Almond & Redcurrant‘ (100ml, £92, limited edition). A gourmand cologne with a bit of a bite, the sweet notes come from tonka bean and green almond, and the sharp notes from redcurrant and cedarwood. It’s definitely not too cloying, which is what’s so nice about it and it’s not a predictable Christmas scent either. It also comes with a matching candle (£120, buy it here).
What do you think of the sugared almond pink and white bottle? And the striped candle? So different, right? Some people might be a little disappointed but I actually think most people will love it. So much fun!
On the cologne front, last year’s Orange Bitters is back (£92 for 100ml). If you like Christmassy citruses then grab one of these. I didn’t manage to get my hands on one but it’s definitely one of my favourite Jo Malone Christmas scents, very nostalgic and instantly uplifting. Pomegranate Noir is now also available in a limited edition striped bottle (buy it here)
Onto the other fabulously packaged Jo Malone Christmas gifts. The advent calendars are a big deal of course and this year they’re multi coloured. The giant advent calendar is exclusive to Harrods (£300) and the smaller House of Jo Malone London will be available at Selfridges (£136). (UPDATE: Sorry, it seems to be sold out everywhere.)
These miniature soaps (below) are a big highlight. Are they meant to be macarons or chocolates? I thought chocolates as we always go mad for Charbonnel & Walker ginger thins. Anyway, there are three different scented soaps in here if anyone is mad enough to actually use them (Lime, Basil & Mandarin, Red Roses, English Pear & Fresia, £36).
In the round green box is a trio of body and hand wash, hand cream and cologne (£80) and in the red box, a body creme, body and hand wash and cologne (£78). In the hexagonal boxes are a collection of five mini Colognes (£75) or Cologne Intenses (£94, my favourite types of Jo Malone cologne). These boxes are based on Japanese prints and colours and are just lovely.
Oh, the gigantic cracker is back! This is a feat of personalisation, where you can choose the four full-sized products you want inside. What do people do with the empty cracker afterwards? You could probably house a small child in it…
And of course there are the standard crackers which again have been reinvented in Japanese-inspired graphics. These sell out pretty fast though so don’t leave it to the last minute. (I don’t like hyping things up but hey, just sayin’.)
The Jo Malone London Christmas 2017 collection is available nationwide from Monday 23rd October 2017 (*Update: it has now launched – click here!).
