Library corner: Bold Beautiful and Damned – the world of 1980s fashion illustrator Tony Viramontes

Bold-Beautiful-and-Damned-Tony-Viramontes

Much as I love fashion photography, nothing beats slapping a brush on a page and creating an exaggerated line that sums up the silhouette of the season. I’m well out of practice in that respect but I still love to enjoy amazing work from the great and good of fashion illustration. On Instagram I get my fix from David Downton and if you appreciate illustration I recommend that you do too.

Back in the day, I was inspired by the work of Tony Viramontes. His work can be enjoyed again in a new book, ‘Bold, Beautiful and Damned’ just published by Laurence King. (more…)

This is not a handbag

Trending for ss14: the intersection between art and fashion. Oh yes, I’m well up for this. Ok, art and fashion have always been rampant bedfellows, but from here on in, I think we’re going to see a lot more fash-art hook-ups. Sorry purists but art just got fashionable.

To whet our appetites, we’ve had the Dior-Warhol collab for Aw13 and the art-inspired collection from Prada for ss14. Not to mention Chanel’s art gallery-themed ss14 show and the Chanel Bond Street store that’s practically an art gallery in itself.

And hot on the heels of Paris Fashion Week we have… FRIEZE! (more…)

The Meaning of Things at The Gilbert Scott

Gilbert-Scott-Kitchen-Table 4

What do you get when you gather a handful of fashion and beauty bloggers and editors around the chef’s table at The Gilbert Scott brasserie, accompanied by gin cocktails and a different wine with every course? A long and rather merry debate is the answer.

Three weeks ago, I hosted an evening at ‘the kitchen table’ of The Gilbert Scott, part of the wonderfully gothic St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in King’s Cross. Renovated in 2011 from George Gilbert Scott’s original Midland Grand Hotel, it’s one of London’s most dramatic landmarks. (more…)

Learn the insider secrets of denim with me at Selfridges Denim Studio

Disneyrollergirl-Selfridges-Denim-lovers

Got plans for next Saturday afternoon? Well cancel them and hang out with me instead! I’m teaming up with Selfridges to host one of their in-store workshops to celebrate the new Denim Studio and this one is for both hardcore denim geeks and those who still haven’t found their perfect jeans.

I’ll be teaming up with a member of Selfridges’ personal shopping team and one of their expert alterations team to discuss everything there is to know about denim and jeans. Think of it as an insider’s guide to denim. So if you want to know what the emerging trends are in denim (and the how and why), the secret to knowing what to look for in fit, cut and wash, what the limitations are in remodelling a pair of denim jeans (or dress or jacket for that matter), or you just want an opinion on what looks good on you, then please come and join our masterclass.

We will be in an informal hub in the denim personal shopping area so the aim is to make this more of a relaxed conversation than a lecture. The workshop is free, just email [email protected] to book a session – 2pm, 3pm or 4pm – on Saturday 6th July.

And if you can’t come but want questions answered, or want to send a question in advance, leave it in the comments below or email/tweet me ([email protected], @disneyrollrgirl) and I’ll get an answer from my experts.
