Shop the post: Chalet girls
This week as I marinate in the damp, wind-battered streets of NW10, I’ve been reading all about the French mountain resort of Megève. In particular, the ‘chaletwear’ store AAllard that specialises in après-ski wear and whose founder Armand Allard actually invented the ‘fuseau’, aka the tapered, tailored stirrup pant that begat the stretchy ski pant as an early garment to tuck into ski boots. (When local ski champ Émile Allais wore them for his triple medal win in the 1937 world skiing championships, a trend was born.)
AAllard still sells tailored fuseaus, as well as wool-cashmere parkas, merino après-ski knits and lounge-friendly duvet coats. Although I’m not really sold on the ecommerce offer, these utilitarian boots are a standout – designed to last, classic in style and Italian-made. As you know, I’m not a wintersports kinda gal, but chalet-chic cosplay I can certainly do. For inspo, I’m referencing the beautiful people of Verbier, Vermont and Klosters (below) as captured by legendary photographer Slim Aarons – surely the benchmark of smart-casual slope-wear.
Key ingredients: alpine sweaters, jersey roll necks, bright waterproofs and statement eyewear.
