THE DRG STYLE INDEX: Glossier, Le Kilt, Colette and more…!

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands and industry stories currently buzzing on my radar…

Glossier UK launch
Am I the only person left who hasn’t tried Glossier? The 35 million dollar blogger beauty brand is finally extending its reach worldwide with a big buzz of coverage in the media last week. London is getting the first of the European push (exact date still tbc), which has come about thanks to Glossier’s phenomenally engaged social media fan base. News on exactly who will be stocking the products is also tbc but rest assured there will be a physical presence, the online-offline mix is key to brand DNA.

Le Kilt Woolmark Prize British Isles 2017 Sam McCoach

What a great win for Sam McCoach at Le Kilt and menswear designer Matthew Miller who both scooped the International Woolmark Prize for the British Isles last week. McCoach, whose business was based on the Scottish kilts her grandma used to make is using merino wool to explore the possibilities of wool denim (above). She will spend the next few months creating a capsule collection to go forward for the big $200,000 global prize early next year.

Colette Paris closing down
Paris retail landmark Colette announced it’s shutting up shop at the end of the year. Colette is a must-visit for me on every Paris trip. I always leave with a book, magazine or pointless knick-knack, more as a souvenir of the trip than anything else. Although I always check out the first floor and have enjoyed some great exhibitions in that space, I’ve never gone there to buy RTW, it’s always more an experience thing. Founder Colette Roussaux and her daughter Sarah Andelman own the building and are in talks to lease the space to YSL. Andelman told the New York Times she’ll “continue to do what I do: curate ideas and work with brands on different projects” as a consultant.

Try before you buy is a growing trend in jewellery, fashion, fragrance and even swimwear retail. The New York Times breaks it down.

How to apply KonMari-type thinking to your working day… (via the excellent PER/se newsletter)

I’m kind of against ‘content factories’ but I can’t deny Hypebeast and High Snobiety have nailed the formula. Here’s a fascinating long read  on how they do it.

Be careful what you say. I for one had no I idea that ‘gender fluidity’ isn’t just a fashion term
