THE DRG STYLE INDEX: BURBERRY X VSCO, POLAROID’S NEW CAMERA, LACOSTE GETS A REVAMP

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…

1. BURBERRY X VSCO

Burberry X VSCO Cam

Everyone knows about Instagram, but VSCOcam is another photo social networking app that’s gaining popularity with photography fans and brands. Its filters are stunning and it lends itself to professional photographers and brands who want to create galleries (called ‘grids’) of a superior standard. Here’s one I discovered from VSCOcam and Burberry which lets users upload their own images to a ‘grid’ dedicated to rainy weather. Burberry also scouted one of its recent photographers from the VSCO community, commissioning Sisilia Piring to shoot its Art Of The Trench images (above) to coincide with the launch of the Los Angeles Burberry flagship store.

2. POLAROID LAUNCHES SOCIAL-MATIC

Attention Polaroid nostalgists, here’s a new product from Polaroid with one foot in the past and one in the present. The Social-matic camera lets you view images on a screen, share on social and print out instantly. The downside is the price of the camera ($300) and the price of the film. I still kinda love it though. (Available for UK pre-order here)

3. LACOSTE IS REBRANDING ITSELF

Lacoste-ss15-Style-Com

Lacoste is branching out of its preppie parameters, according to Fashionista.com. Since Christophe Lemaire joined the company in 2001, it has slowly achieved a bigger, more directional fashion focus. And now, 14 years later, the tennis heritage brand is set for another revamp. Its ss15 collection certainly shows promise, with cool city-sharp silhouettes and an overall ‘athleisure’ feel designed by current creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista. Retail-wise there are big changes afoot too. As CEO José Luis Duran told WWD, “you will see no sports line and no Lacoste Live in most of our stand-alone stores, unless it’s a big location, such as our Champs-Élysées unit. Brand positioning is really my number-one priority, and the idea is to make Lacoste more premium.”
