It’s May and that means one thing: Tom Ford Beauty summer newness. Tom Ford’s new Soleil collection dropped last week and if this doesn’t fill you with the joys of pre-summer then nothing will…
I got a first look at the collection a few weeks ago at a dinner at the Four Seasons. Those events are a good way to gauge initial interest from my fellow blogging colleagues so here are some highlights. I can tell you that there were lots of ‘oohs’ at the sight of the new Cream And Powder Eye Color duos. These round pots have two products inside – a metallic cream shadow and a sparkling celestial powder – along with a wee mirror. You can wear either alone or layer one over the other. I’m all about Naked Bronze, a lush gold and bronze combo. £46 is a hell of a lot, but you’re getting lots of versatility here and the formulations are faultless.
The new Tom Ford Cream Cheek Color in Pink Sand was also really well received. This is exactly my kind of cheek colour – a cream consistency in colour-pop coral. Isn’t the white casing fabulous? At £46 that’s mostly what you’re paying for. (I’m wed to the Tory Burch Lip and Cheek Tint and I can’t help wondering if it’s the same formula…)
The Tom Ford bronzing powders already have iconic status and there’s a new smaller, clutch-bag size one out for summer. (I have the bigger size in the photos.) These bronzers are so good, you really don’t need much at all so if you find the standard size too unwieldy (and spendy at £68), then the smaller ones are a better option at £48.
Then there are my favourite Tom Ford lipsticks. The ivory-cased Lip Colour Sheers are back! This time in a rainbow of rich, sunset pinks (that’s Skinnydip in the photo). When you look at these shades, you realise that the beauty of Tom Ford make-up is that you can go natural or heavy. I’m not always crazy about Tom Ford’s advertising photography but that uber-sexy aesthetic is part of his branding. Yet, approach with a light hand and you can enjoy the moisturising formulas and beautiful pigments in a much more subtle way.
In fragrance news, there’s a fragranced Shimmering Body Oil (£68) that’s as stunning as you’d expect, although there are lots of glitter particles that will migrate to the face, so best save for holidays. I do love scented body oils though as they’re a good way to do holiday scent in a more casual way. And arriving on 1st June is a new fragrance from the Neroli Portofino collection called Fleur De Portofino. This floral-slash-citrus eau de parfum immediately conjurs warm beachy breezes and
trashy novels poolside cocktails to get you in the mood for summer.
Oh one last thing, that’s a surprise bonus. Yes, it is what you think it is. Yes, that right there is a Tom Ford £2,290 minaudière. Covered in silver palettes. And yes, that is indeed a lipstick-holder side car. Only at Tom Ford, yeah?
