THE DRG STYLE INDEX: CONNOLLY, AESOP, MIH JEANS, DRIES VAN NOTEN
Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…
1. THE CONNOLLY COMEBACK
I suspect many brands would like to be considered ‘the English Hermès’, but Connolly seems to be the closest thing, as mentioned in this How To Spend It article. The understated luxury brand has quietly opened a Connolly store on Clifford Street in Mayfair, where Isabel Ettedgui (widow of the late Joseph Ettedgui) has overseen everything from décor, to hand-made leather desk accessories, to cashmere-on-the-inside-Shetland-on-the-outside sweaters. The website is rather lovely too.
2. AESOP X ASTIER DE VILATTE
If you’re out and about near Lamb’s Conduit Street this month, pop into Aesop and pick up a copy of the Astier de Villatte Paris guide, Ma vie à Paris. I always stop by Astier de Villatte whenever I visit Paris; its jolie-laide ceramics and candles are a delight, as is the store itself. It’s a nice partner to Aesop, whose own stores are always an homage to their locality. At the Lamb’s Conduit Street store you can enjoy the special Astier de Villatte installation, or pick up a copy of the guide from Aesop Soho, Marylebone or Shoreditch. Until 25th November.
3. MIH JEANS CUSTOM DENIM
Just launched from M.I.H Jeans: all sorts of ways to zhuzh up your denim. The Denim Girls Project is its new service that lets you add embroidery, patches, and tassel details, or tailor your jeans, adjust hems, or remove cuffs and collars should you wish. There are lots of brands doing these customising services but this is a few notches above most of them and it’s not just limited to M.I.H denim. Have a look at the possibilities on The Denim Girls Project hub here…
4. YES IT’S TRUE, A DRIES VAN NOTEN FILM IS COMING
In case you missed it, yes, there’s a ‘Dries’ film in the works, focusing on the life and work of Dries Van Noten. Written, directed and produced by Reiner Holzemer, it will also include interviews with the likes of Iris Apfel, Pamela Golbin and Suzy Menkes. If you enjoyed Dior & I, The First Monday In May and Advanced Style, then look out for this (mostly likely next year) as it’s being distributed by the same distributor, Dogwoof Pictures.
