First look: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation
Chanel’s Les Beiges range has got to be one of its most successful. And it’s just got better. To accompany the original Les Beiges bronzer (launched three years ago), and last year’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Sticks and Healthy Glow Hydrating Lip Balm, there’s the biggie – Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation.
This is a liquid foundation with SPF 25, enriched with a hyaluronic acid derivative that promises to keep skin feeling hydrated through out the day. There’s also the added bonus of polymers that grip on to ensure long-lasting hold so you don’t sweat your make-up off. Me likey!
Consistency-wise, this is my favourite kind of light-to-medium coverage foundation, on a par with Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Foundation and By Terry Light Expert Click Brush foundation. It comes in a frosted glass pump bottle that dispenses a good amount for sheer coverage in one to two pumps. I like my coverage sheer, but buildable, so I do one application blended like a maniac, then go over again if I need to.
I had the chance to get an early look at this in November, demo-ed by Chanel make-up artist Zoe Taylor. Although it can be applied easily with fingers, Zoe used the Fluid/Powder Foundation Brush, an excellent densely-packed, angled brush that buffs it in beautifully. For me, the trick is to spend that bit longer on blending it in, extending it under the jaw as well. I like to work quickly as I feel like if I go too slow, it will start drying up.
As with the other Les Beiges products, the whole schtick with this foundation is to impart a natural, but ‘flawless’ look. So it does a great job of evening the complexion, it feels weightless and adds just a bit of subtle colour (Chanel calls this a rosy glow and puts it down to its ‘Healthy Glow Booster’, an optical science component that reflects white and red to create a rosy halo.)
You can also use this to touch up existing foundation without it breaking up or going patchy. I find it lasts really well and I hardly need to touch up at all – those polymers do an impressive job.
Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation arrives in the UK on 15th January. It costs £36, comes in nine shades (No 10, No 20, No 30, No 40, No 50, No 60, No 70, plus No 12 Rosé and No 22 Rosé) and will be available nationwide. Buy it now at John Lewis and Selfridges.

The Les Beiges products look really lovely. I wish Chanel would have a transactional beauty site (official).. For the U.K. . Buying 3rd party is just not the same!
