Celine Homme SS25: The Bright Young
I know it’s all about New York SS25 womenswear, but my head is in Paris SS25 menswear. Specifically Hedi Slimane’s latest Celine outing, ‘The Bright Young’. Shot in the manicured grounds of Holkham, Norfolk, Hedi Slimane is suggesting equally manicured, floppy-fringed, toff-chic in stripe-edged blazers, cashmere cricket whites, short shorts and red knee-high socks.
Some critics on The Fashion Spot complained that the English public* school sartorial references were too literal. But as someone around the same age as Hedi, I’d say it’s just an acknowledgement of an era you’re very familiar with and perhaps nostalgic for. (We could call it ‘Merchant-Ivory-core’).
Somehow it doesn’t look stuffy. The sullen-faced struts and slouches of college-age boys give things an attitude that’s youthful yet refined. The magic Hedi touches are hiding in plain sight – varsity jackets, leather blousons and post-punk Wayfarers. It’s all in the mix and the best thing is you can buy it off the rack at Celine, source it vintage (try The Vintage Showroom or Crowley Vintage) or shop your own closet.
I would pick a red ankle sock in lieu of the knee sock, but have the heavy tread Oxford shoes, slim blazer and eyewear already to hand, while the pseudo cricket cable sweater is just within reach. Watch the Celine Homme SS25 film here.
