What to buy from Lemaire AW20

Lemaire AW20 by Osma Harvilahti

One of my favourite AW20 collections, there are so many great takeaways from the Lemaire show…

THE CASTING. Real-looking people of all ages wearing clothes that look like they belong to them. I love the setting too and the choreography with the sideways glances, like a series of snapshots taken from the street

THE STYLING. A fantastic layering masterclass, accessorised with signature camera bags and stack heel boots (did I say I only want to wear flats? Oops I just changed my mind.) I’m guessing this is the work of Christophe Lemaire’s right hand woman, Sarah-Linh Tran, something of an insider style crush for her effortlessly thrown together ensembles

THE BOOTS. About those boots. I’m a classics girl deep down but I would absolutely entertain the boots (below) covered in folksy feather doodles by Mexican outsider artist Martín Ramírez

THE BALACLAVA.
I need someone to adapt this balaclava-snood with a detachable Covid mask. Make it happen people…

Lemaire is a quiet label but it’s going places. It received a 4.5 million euro cash boost last year from Uniqlo owner Fast Retailing, and retailers like Matches Fashion* have been buying deeply into the brand. It’s easy stuff to sell, the ‘urban camouflage’ straight leg denim, gender-neutral raincoats and roomy overshirts have resulted in a sales increase of 67%,year on year. Even in a pandemic, these anti-trend clothes whisper ‘buy me’, with the proviso that we’ll want to keep them well past a couple of seasons.
