The Jil Sander little black suit
The perfect Jil Sander little black suit is back.
I wouldn’t want to be Lucie and Luke Meier with all the pressure entailed in trying to resuscitate Jil Sander. Their debut collection for SS18 was big on slim tailoring, monastic white shirts, lots of texture layering (macrame fringing anyone?) and some great bags. Nothing mind-exploding but that’s not what you want for Jil Sander.
“In a season of maximalism and shows that have dripped with merchandise, the duo’s clean, clear-focused collection of shirts, suiting and homespun knits would chime with anyone looking for moderation in a season of extravagance,” said Jo Ellison in the FT (sub req). “The collection was about purity and emotion. No excess at all,” Lucie Meier told her.
Despite the peaks and troughs, I’ve always liked this brand so I’m hoping these guys can make it relevant again.
