Two recent discoveries on my radar for Mother’s Day* – or any other gifting occasion…
POTT CANDLES. Pott (above) is a candle subscription service offering handmade ceramic pots with refillable hand-poured scented candles. Choose your pot, then select your fragrance from a choice of ten (or an unscented one if you prefer) to get a new candle refill every month. The pots start at £30 (for the Petite size) and the subscription refills start at £10 a month (for the Petite).
If your giftee isn’t into subscription services (but who wouldn’t love this?!), Pott also sells individual candle pots. The latest is the limited-edition Lac (below), in a spectrum of gentle blues and greens inspired by British lakes. Buy the Lac here.
CROUCHERS. Crouchers (below) is the brainchild of ex-Net-a-Porter buyer Ben Matthews, whose e-commerce ‘general store’ riffs off the nostalgia for his great grandfather’s neighbourhood business. A modern take on homeware and craft, Crouchers – The British Home Store is an e-store selling lifestyle products from contemporary British independent makers but with a no-nonsense heritage feel in the branding. Matthews’ selective edit marries the feeling of discovery you get from analogue shopping with the convenience of buying online, especially for gifts. My highlights include handblown glassware by Gather and The Glass Studio, elegant beech utility brushes by Turner & Harper, body washes from Verden (co-founded by Votary’s Arabella Preston), and the cult Idan oil from British-African beauty brand, Liha. Plus mohair throws, enamelware, paper goods and more.
