Eckhaus Latta on art, commerce and how we shop now

Eckhaus Latta Possessed at the Whitney Museum of American Art

“On the day to day, we are a lot more synonymous to being fashion designers, but we’re also still interested in asking these questions and engaging with our audience in a way that isn’t strictly about commerce. We’re so honored that our world has allowed us to do that.”

This looks like a good exhibition by Zoe Latta (quoted above) and Mike Eckhaus, aka fashion designers Eckhaus Latta, just opened at the Whitney Museum of American Art. “Eckhaus Latta: Possessed,” is a look at contemporary fashion and commerce and includes an interactive component where you can essentially shop the exhibition.

The show features three installations that ponder our relationship to fashion and consumerism and highlight the surveillance and data tracking used by companies today in an effort to sell us more. We collude with this almost unwittingly, but this show exposes it and questions it.
