Diesel does dayglo

Exciting news just in this week that my blog buddy Sophy Robson is doing the nails for Jeremy Scott at LFW. There is definitely a nail thing going on in London right now, and no event is complete without its nail artists in situ. Last week I was tempted down to the Diesel Flash for Fun launch (its glow in the dark collection that lands next month), not by free jeans and tees but by a free day-glo manicure courtesy of WAH Nails.

Not only were the nail artists sweet and super-creative (no French manicures here) but something about the whole shebang with the little toy-like plastic fans on the tables (to dry the nails) and general hubub made the event far friendlier than your average hifalutin fash bash. Well, that and the fact it was held at the Dalston Superstore.

In the basement you could see the clothes in action, glow-in-the-dark stitched jeans reminding me of Helmut Lang’s 1990s reflective dresses and trousers – *looks off wistfully into the middle distance* – anyone else remember these? But truly, the most fun was had upstairs where you couldn’t move for fash-bloggers – Isabelle O’Carroll, Fred Butler, Jaiden James and Rasharn Rva included. Honestly, the only fash-blogger missing was Miss Sophynails herself!

Canape-watch at The BFC NEWGEN winners announcement

A delightfully British spread was laid on for guests at the announcement of the BFC NEWGEN sponsorship winners at Somerset House. A proper cream tea feast awaited us on a table groaning with crustless cucumber sandwiches, home-made lemonade and a particularly fine mini scone.

Info gleaned:
NEWGEN sponsor TopShop is collaborating with ‘a renowned image-maker’ on a short fashion film!

Louise Gray’s laptop is as arty as her dresses!

Feathers PR Violaine has a new haircut!

Henry Holland’s flight was delayed meaning a no-show for Henry!

One of the designers had a mini-strop!

Something for the weekend

Anyone going to the House & Garden Spirit of Summer fair at Olympia this weekend? I’m helping out on the ‘Kids Company shopping drop-off point’, where for a donation of £2, shoppers can have their bags looked after for the day. Not only that, but we will also be selling exclusive ‘I Love Kids Company’ Peter Blake prints as well as holding a raffle. We have managed to secure some brilliant prizes from Mulberry, Lulu Guinness, Missoni fragrances and Elemis among others.

Kids Company is an amazing charity that gives emotional and practical support to marginalised children and young people. Its director and founder, Camila Batmanghelidjh (above) is hugely inspiring, not to mention a fashion one-off. Read more here and you can book tickets here.

AW 09-10 trend report: cashmere and cupcakes and geniuses at work

The first week of press days is nearly over – yippee! Prevailing trends so far have been the shaggy fur outsize gilet (one in pretty much every collection I’ve seen), thigh-high fetishy boots, Obama yellow (a kind of mustard-meets-chartreuse) and shit-loads of cashmere.

Funnest venue
Did I say I don’t like press days in showrooms? I take that back. French Connection’s showroom was bedecked in hundreds of giant blue balloons like a Tim Walker/Shona Heath shoot set. Bloody brilliant!

Best catering
Agent Provocateur’s cupcakes and fruit tarts

Best goody bag
Phone charms from Swarovski and Tatty Devine appealed to my inner twelve-year-old but were pipped to the post by the Jo Malone gift box at B2B Media.

OMG moment
Stumbling upon Tatty Devine and Charlie le Mindu’s actual work in progress. (They’re working on a collab together, what fun!)
