Tennis Girl Summer: Lacoste x Sporty & Rich
We all love to hate on lame fashion collabs, but here’s one that actually makes sense.
Lacoste x Sporty & Rich* is a happy hook-up between L.A wellness and French après-tennis. Sporty & Rich has arguably made sweats and polos a de rigueur fashion statement by tapping into 80s sports pop culture (Princess Di post-gym pap shots are a mood board regular) through a sexy 70s lens with a side of post-Goop wellness rhetoric. Meanwhile, Lacoste has the heritage of classic tennis style, updated with contemporary (read: roomy) silhouettes, details and colours.
The Lacoste x Sporty & Rich collection* of 22 pieces is a collaboration masterclass, featuring boxy tees*, logo sweats* and stripy polos*, as well as beach towels*, totes* and caps*. Logos are just-prominent-enough and shapes are an excellent hybrid of both brands’ signature looks.
The timing couldn’t be better. According to The Industry, it’s a Tennis Girl Summer, with #tenniscore trending in Celine’s ‘La Collection Tennis’ line, the Lawn Tennis Association reporting a 372% uptick in tennis participation since the pandemic, and a new breed of player looking for cool garms to wear on court that transition easily to après-tennis coffee on the King’s Road – and then straight to the school run.
