How to wear pyjamas for day

Sarah Rutson wear For Resrless Sleepers pyjamas How to wear pyjamas for day

I’m all for pyjama dressing, but how to make sure your piped Dolce & Gabbana pjs and brocade Gucci slippers don’t look like you just tumbled out of bed? Easy. First make sure you go for a thicker, luxer class of PJ, so look at Dolce, Marni, Dries van Noten and Gucci. You can try wearing actual pyjamas for day wear, but let’s be honest, this requires a certain nonchalance to pull off. Instead, the elevated daywear version will be slightly crisper in fabric and structured in cut, plus I’d go for a contrasting rather than matching pair. Even better, wear the top with sharply tailored pants or the bottoms with an amazing artisanal knit.

it’s also worth making sure your accessories have a level of polish. Go for a structured bag and chunky, purposeful heels, rather than a soft bag and anything too bedroom slipper-ish. I love the Sarah Rutson pic (above); stick it on your Pinterest and study it daily! She’s wearing For Restless Sleepers, which is a Milanese brand that uses plush Italian fabrics for its pyjama-centric designs (buy them at Net-a-Porter). Slightly more casual, I love the idea of a cropped pyjama-stripe pant, boyish lace-ups and a simple knit sweater (I like Paul Smith, Sacai and & Other Stories).

Good hair, a bit of makeup and statement jewellery also help to elevate. So, a deep magenta stain, plus a mannish watch (Shinola, Uniform Wares or Rolex according to budget) or a stack of thin bangles will do the trick. Oh, I also love the idea of a dress over PJ pants. This is a well-versed Prada trick that never gets old. In fact, I love this for the more eccentric interpretation. Just make sure there’s a level of polish so you don’t veer too Grey Gardens.
