quote of the day

“In China [the 1960s] was the Cultural Revolution. You need to explain swinging London, Mary Quant, the Beatles and why these people made a difference. If you don’t explain, they’re just clothes.”
Angelica Cheung, editor of Vogue China on the new Chinese luxury market (and why Vogue China is so big you need to sit at a table to read it), The Guardian

Vintage Hemingway

Following last year’s Vintage at Goodwood, Wayne Hemingway’s fashion-and-music Vintage Festival moves to London this summer. On Wednesday, Caryn Franklin will be in conversation with Hemingway at the Museum of London to discuss London and its influences on his work in the creative industries. I caught a speech by Hemingway a while ago at a mobile phone launch (!) and found him to be likeable and engaging. The always-inspiring Caryn Franklin is a brilliant interviewer so if you’re interested in thoughts on design and creativity I reckon this will be well worth attending.

The wedding photos they didn’t want you to see

I’ve managed to steer clear of you-know-who’s wedding up until now but I couldn’t resist this wedding-related post. Photographer Jean-Christian Bourcart worked in a photo studio during his early years during which time he amassed quite a collection of unsold out-takes.

“I was like an archeologist, patiently digging through the strata of this collective memory. I put together my own album. It told the story of a hybrid family, a bit strange, perhaps, but deliberately chosen nonetheless, a narrative that was funny and innocent and sometimes tragic, which vacillated between the representation of happiness and the accidents of life, which could be called reality.”

Taken in the pre-digital years, you’d most likely never get these now – the delete button has put paid to that…

Hero tool alert! No more half-used tubes

How’s this for a cool beauty tool you never knew existed? Into The Gloss featured a Jurlique ‘tube crimper’ and everyone went mad asking where to buy one. Here’s the answer. You can buy the Tube-Wringer® from Tubewringer.com in three different strengths.

No more wastage of expensive toothpaste and hand creams, or having to resort to scissoring tubes in half to eke out the contents. All we need now is a prettier version (rose gold?) – and something similar for the pump dispenser…
