What to buy the beauty-phile who has everything? Well there are a few always happily received items one can rely on. A Fornasetti candle, in its illustrated ceramic holder is a definite keeper, or maybe the trinket tray with the illustrated hand to hold her nail polishes and cotton pads. If she’s a lover of the double-Cs, then the Chanel Jasmine Facial Oil is a fabulous everyday treat. (I’ve been using mine daily and it’s still full to the top.) Or for the no-nonsense type, how about a bottle of Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Handwash? Wonderfully spoiling, one pump of this exfoliating handwash and there’s no going back to the bog standard stuff.
Or you could put all that aside and go for the ultimate in French whimsy and artisanal excellence. I’m thinking about L‘Officine Universelle Buly, purveyors of handmade soaps, lotions and beauty waters, all made with nature-based ingredients and paraben and alcohol-free.
The once secret fashion insider’s apothecary is now a global phenomenon. Ramdane Touhami and Victoire de Taillac reinvented it after acquiring the 214-year-old company three years ago. The latest addition to the brand is an ‘Atlas of Natural Beauty‘ an encyclopaedia-cum-recipe-book that educates you on the wonders of natural ingredients and encourages you to concoct your own potions. It’s a highly readable tome and beautifully designed with detailed botanical illustrations. My favourites how-tos are the lavender-filled pillow and the pomegranate beauty mask.
And in other Buly news, the phenomenon is coming to Selfridges. Opening at the end of the month, the store will sell an extensive array of items from its trove of beauty unguents, self care tools and accessories.
