The two woody colognes from the Jo Malone English Oak offering are English Oak & Redcurrant and English Oak & Hazelnut. In true Jo Malone London style, the Townhouse was bedecked in the manner of an enchanted forest with a life size tree overlooking a winding table groaning with teatime treats (I instantly guzzled my so-on-brand lime and mandarin cordial). But the fragrances were the main event and these two are both vibrant wood-based colognes that will truly work year-round.
I’ve been wearing my sample of Jo Malone English Oak & Hazelnut – an earthy cedarwood-infused cologne that gently follows you around all day in the nicest possible way. (I recently discovered Chanel’s Sycamore and there are shades of that in its warmth and subtlety). It’s an all-day-long wrist-sniffer and a classic in the making, I think.
Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant is fuller-bodied and juicy. It has a heart of rose, which isn’t immediately apparent and top notes of redcurrant, which brought to my mind my favourite Jo Malone fruity juice, Blackberry & Bay. Of the two, I would say that English Oak and Hazelnut is the more unisex, although Jo Malone London never assigns a gender to its products.
Both of these arrive on counter in September in 100ml (£88) and 30ml (£44). English Oak & Redcurrant will also come in a Body & Hand Wash (£30), a Body Crème (£52) and a Home Candle (£44). UPDATE: Buy English Oak & Hazelnut here and English Oak and Redcurrant here.
